The seminar on spectral theory and geometry was created in 1983 as a joint seminar between the Institut Fourier, mathematics department of the University of Grenoble and the mathematics department of the University of Chambéry. In 1992-1993 (numbre 11), it took the current status, that is a seminar of the Institut Fourier only.
Since its birth, every year, the acts are published by the Institut Fourier. They gather the texts of a selection of talks that are reviewed individually on MathScinet and Zentralblatt.
The topics described go now far beyond the spectral theory and covers a wide range of themes in geometry and topology with an emphasis on Riemannian geometry.

The seminar on spectral theory and geometry, previously hosted by Cedram, is now web-published by the Centre Mersenne.
In 2019, Cedram has become the Centre Mersenne for open scientific publishing, a publishing platform for scientific journals developed by Mathdoc.
